IT’S NOT THAT BAD
Running in cold weather can be very unappealing to where you just opt for the treadmill instead. Unless it is 20 degrees below Fahrenheit paired with a blistering wind, running in the cold can be exhilarating and an adventure. Most runners fail to realize just how much your body heats up when your are out there running after 20 minutes or so. The key is to dress appropriately in layers and this blog will help you get an idea.
THE GOLDEN RULE: Dress as if it is 10-20 degrees warmer than it is.
The below matrix help guide you using the golden rule to know what to wear running in cold weather. There is such a thing as dressing too warm, when that happens you sweat more. Once you start cooling down that sweat gets really cold sending your body temperature way down where things can get risky with hypothermia.

We are balls deep in Fall and the weather is shifting colder by the week as evidenced by the declining day light. It is better to transition with the season starting with the milder days to get acclimated to the colder weather. Yes, the cold air may feel a bit uncomfortable to your lungs. It is important to note that the cold air will not do any damage until it gets below zero. I have no medical studies to support this, but it is a known fact.
